Prof. Corné Davis is a renowned gender-based violence (GBV) activist and a trustee of Matla a Bana, an NGO that campaigns against child rape and secondary abuse. She has been a part of the NGO since 2014 and represents them when necessary. Additionally, Prof. Davis is an advisor to TEARS Foundation and supports their work, research and publication.
Prof. Davis has dedicated her academic career to the study of GBV and gender identity. She led and completed a research report on GBV in collaboration with the Shared Value Africa Initiative, the University of Mid Sweden, and KPMG South Africa. Currently, she is conducting further research on the socio-economic impact of GBV in South Africa, working with Prof. Koustuv Dalal from the University of Mid-Sweden. She is also supervising three doctoral and three master's studies on the topics of GBV and gender identity.
Prof. Davis's work has been recognized on various national media platforms, and she was awarded the 2022 Faculty of Humanities Dean's award for outstanding academic citizenship. Furthermore, she is a member of the Management Executive Committee for Transformation at UJ, where she is involved with projects relating to GBV and gender identity, involving students at Alumni.
